General:
Biennial or short-lived perennial herb usually from an unbranched stem-base; stems 1-few, 20-80 cm tall, stiff-hairy basally, glabrous above.
Leaves:
Basal leaves oblanceolate, 2-8 cm long, 0.5-2 cm wide, narrowed to a slender, fringed stalk, glabrous to sparsely hairy above and below; stem leaves broadly egg-shaped to oblanceolate, unstalked, with clasping bases and often toothed margins, more or less glabrous.
Flowers:
Few to many-flowered racemes; petals 6-9 mm long, white to pale pink; sepals bulging on one side at the base.
Fruits:
siliques, erect to slightly spreading away from the axis of the inflorescence, straight or slightly curved, 5-8 cm long, 1-2 mm wide, glabrous; seeds in 1 row, 1-2 mm long, wingless or with very narrow wings.
Notes:
Often included in A. hirsuta, as the coastal form of that species.

Habitat / Range

Moist to mesic meadows, streambanks, rocky slopes and disturbed areas in the lowland to alpine zones; frequent in BC in and W of the Coast-Cascade Mountains; N to AK and YT and S to W ID and OR.
